On 3 August 2023, the Famine Early Warning System Network released a report on Angola's food security.* The report outlines Angola's difficulty in obtaining foreign currency to fund its food imports. The report also notes the drier conditions negatively impacting domestic food production.

This places a cost on the Government as it must subsidise food for its local population.

Development of Angola's agricultural sector will benefit the nation in many ways. This includes feeding the local population, retention of foreign reserves and the freeing-up of Government funding to spend on things such as education and irrigation infrastructure. Irrigation infrastructure can help lessen the impacts of dry weather on crop yields.

Minbos will play a critical role in Angola's agricultural sector by providing fertilizer to increase the quality and quantity of local food production.

The recent offtake with Carrinho may be a result of 'luck' as some posters have alluded to. However, it is more likely a result of harmonious planning whereby the production of fertilizer, food warehousing and commercial farms are developed in lock step to push Angola's agricultural sector forward. This is consistent with Lindsay's comments which indicate that Angola put this mining project out to tender for the nation's agricultural sector.
