Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere before now, but a La Nina (wet) system was widely expected to occur this year and has now been confirmed by the BOM. It might be a blessing in disguise that we have delayed start up. The last La Nina event to hit the region was in the summers of 2010-11 and 2011-12 and resulted in widespread flooding from heavy rainfall and increased cyclones. This one isn't expected to be as bad, but will still likely be very wet.. Edit: Sorry, cyclones were normal that year. Just the rain.
