Good find and obviously somewhat concerning. I haven't got an answer but things like this are exactly what the BFS is for - to demonstrate to a high level of detail how this project is going to operate (process flow chart), what the challenges are, and the solutions and economics.
How to deal with the tailings and associated risk is of course a very important part of the process and in my opinion for an economically robust project like this, an engineering solution will be found (might add some $$) and its feasibility demonstrated as part of the BFS.
