Where there is one high-level “Bluebird discovery”, there could be many more. Such was the exploration hypothesis by Australian copper explorer Tennant Minerals ( ASX:TMS; FRA:UH7A ) following its high-grade Bluebird copper-ironstone discovery at the Barkly Project in the Northern Territory last year. With recent drilling at the adjacent Perseverance and Perservance-North targets and at Bluebird West, the Company is now on track to repeat and even exceed its initial exploration success.

Initial drill interpretation of three key targets within the prospective 2.5 km long Bluebird-Perseverance target zone have intersected mineralized and brecciated fault structures in all three target areas. The laboratory analyzes are still pending. Nevertheless, it can already be said that the Tennant geologists' IP-based reconnaissance method has proven to be extremely accurate: The company immediately found major fault zones with hematite breccia (see Figure 1) and mineralization above a strong one on the Perseverance target Low resistivity (high conductivity) IP anomaly intersected. The target is similar to the low resistivity IP zone that led to the Bluebird discovery where spectacular copper-gold results including50 m @ 2.7% Cu and 63 m @ 2.1% Cu and 4.6 g/t Au . Assay results from the most recent drilling campaign on the Bluebird target itself, including notably the assay of prospective drill hole BBDD0018 (a 32.5m wide zone of strong hematite-copper mineralization, including 7m of 60% massive chalcopyrite) are also pending.

A total of eight reverse circulation (RC) holes and six diamond holes totaling 1,981.1 meters were completed on the three targets using a multi-purpose drill rig (DDH1). Tennant announced a new drill program to test high-grade copper-gold mineralization within these three new highly prospective target zones as soon as possible. In addition, Tennant is planning additional drilling at the Bluebird discovery, which is fully open to the east, west and at depth. New IP surveys will focus on extensions of these important targets within the Bluebird Perseverance target zone, as well as extensions of Bluebird mineralization to the east and west.

Matt Driscoll, Chairman of Tennant Minerals commented, “We are pleased that recent drilling has intersected multiple mineralized hematite breccia structures at key target zones outside of Bluebird within the Bluebird Perseverance Corridor. These results reinforce our belief that the Bluebird discovery is just one of several high-grade copper-gold deposits within the Bluebird-Perseverance target zone.”

Figure 1: Bouguer Gravity image of the Bluebird Perseverance Zone showing structures and IP gravitational-magnetic resistivity targets. The gravity high associated with the Bluebird discovery continues east and west of Bluebird and is associated with the Perseverance target zone, which has the potential for multiple high-grade copper-gold deposits within a significant mineralized corridor with a strike length in excess of 2 km having.

Figure 3: Bluebird IP resistivity and drill cut 448,360mE

The geophysical pattern observed at Perseverance North is very similar to the Bluebird discovery (Figure 3). The hematite breccias intersected by PNDD0002 are interpreted to overlie potentially copper-gold mineralized ironstone as indicated by the gravity anomaly and the thickening zone of low resistivity at depth (Figure 2).

Conclusion: Tennant Minerals is looking to identify a cluster of multiple multi-million tonne high-grade copper-gold deposits at its Barkly project in the Northern Territory. This aspiration sets Tennant apart from its predecessors who developed and operated successful but ultimately small mines at the Tennant Creek Mining Camp. In their search, the Tennant geologists are successfully using modern exploration methods such as IP measurements. The fact that initial drill testing has already hit the proposed structures could prove to be a transformative moment for the well-established Tennant Creek mining camp. A series of high-grade copper-gold deposits at Barkly would warrant a centrally managed copper-gold mining project at Barkly,
