You are right - travel isn't a well-loved acquiring business. The banks were killed when Ansett went under and they completely changed their acquiring policies on this business (mainly around asking travel agents and providers to put down large deposits against their forward exposure).
Not sure who is doing the acquiring. Maybe First Data (as you mentioned, now having an acquiring licence).
