I hold OMA stock, have done for a while and recently bought more- just nominating that up front in case you think I'm ramping EXR somehow- and thanks for popping in to the EXR threads to promote OMA.
You've forgotten to mention the EXR DayDream2 well was vertical- a low cost-highly experimental and innovative multi-zone appraisal well- with final unified flow rates to come within a few weeks.
All 6 zones tested have flowed gas however- free flowing zones as well as stimulated sandstones, fractured thermal coals and gas adsorbed to coals.
Comparing flares from Shells efforts to EXR's efforts currently is premature IMO, especially when you consider costs involved.
EXR's efforts are a mere pittance compared to Shells expenditure no doubt, and their intent was to prove innovative proppant use could stimulate gas to flow from significant depths.
Going forward, EXR will plan out DD3- perhaps in conjunction with a partner- and that well could be vertical/horizontal/slanted- whatever is deemed optimal.
The interesting and perhaps overlooked fact is EXR have (so far) proven a "mere" low-cost vertical well utilising innovative proppant stimulation has worked- at significant depths- circa 4200m.
This will be highlighted going forward IMO once EXR completes a unified 6 zone flow test which will commence once the coiled tubing unit (CTU) returns from Shell in the next few days (I'd imagine).
PS- you can actually benefit as an investor holding both EXR and OMA- I do.
it's NOT a winner take all scenario in the Taroom.
Trevor and Neil at EXR will be in constant communication- everyone can win.
