I agree @Dabru, some people knew, judging by the action yesterday.
One more step to get us well and truly into the semi-conductor industry but still a preliminary step. ... some major decisions to look forward to being announced.
Next, as Mo has stated previously, they will be looking for a semi conductor partner. Which means obviously that the use cases for the chip have to be spelled out and marketed to potential partner. So far AXE is positioning itself in the mobile phone and/or other mobile device markets. The use case that has been mentioned often is applied cryptography and 'sensing' and 'measuring'. Discussions with semi conductor partners could open up a clearer path to commercialization. They may find they can pivot into a market they hadn't previously thought seriously about.
Is it going to be just encryption on phones for everyone, or can it also be deployed in desktops and servers so that finance and government can use it? Finance and government are the two who have indicated that quantum encryption is a 'must have' for now. Is the current mobile phone market calling it a 'must have'. Is AXE thinking of the 12CQ as a sensor/measurer as well?
The decision tree gets complex here. Does AXE market to several end uses or identify one. Which maybe why Mo has been careful not to get into specifics for months. Maybe AXE has some people who can educate and create a market, but judging by how mainstream is still not ready to grasp commercial quantum applications this may take more time than its worth. Might be better to go with where the demand is for now. Once they have found an interested partner, how much of the IP is AXE ready to part with.
Anyway, let's see what AXE identifies as the target market for the 12CQ in an announcement. Not forgetting there are defence applications as well.
