Concerning the application of chips I think we're a long way off mobile phone/desktop use. Even if the chips were mass produced today they would be all but useless given there is next to no software to use it with. The traditional on/off bits that software relies on now simply won't speak with qubits that are in a superposition 'everything at once' state. It's another realm.
That's my understanding anyway - happy to be corrected.
I'm not trying to down ramp. On the contrary I think it will be game on at this rate. I simply do not see success as being contingent upon having end use products ready for market.
