I originally got into share picking and trading then later went into CFDs - it is just as possible to do your shirt as it is to make money. They are simply a synthetic market which reflects the real position as traded on the ASX or whatever exchange your position is taken out upon and your capital (which can be traded equally long or short) is simply used to 'bet' on the difference in the price of the underlying share. Markets swing and change unpredicatbly and will often do the exact opposite of expectations - I agree MME has been a fine example.
