To be clear: my coffee with Steve wasn't a job interview. And I'm not in any way embittered. The fact that one person who I knew to be contrarian wouldn't hire me combined with inflated stock valuations actually caused me to buy an unlisted business for $1.4m, which is about to pay $119k in corporate income tax on its operating earnings (and I've used every lawful trick in the book to get that figure as low as possible!). Plus there's the couple of mill in unrealised gains in the SMSF, and a couple more since the end of the FY. So I've made far too much money to be bitter.
I'm just pointing out that I had talent that Steve was unable to spot.
