Could there be any significance to the below image where the water is pooling? It appears at the top end the trench stops before going uphill IMO.
Could this be a hard rock dyke?
Is the water pooling due to clay type earth or rock perhaps?
The colour of the earth removed looks more sandy than clay to me around the pool of water but sand would surely allow drainage.
A follow up detailed report would certainly help clear up some of the theories and assumptions currently being made....
