Because they couldn't follow it any deeper here. Any cutback potential is limited by the big slip they had at the north end of the pit (check google maps), and the ramp switchback is directly above the area that you would need to cut back.
There's also a big water issue here. A was speaking to a driller who did GC in the pit, and he showed me pictures and video of a waterfall cascading into the north end of the pit. Water management is going to feature heavily in any future mine plan.
