Because they couldn't follow it any deeper here. Any cutback potential is limited by the big slip they had at the north end of the pit (check google maps), and the ramp switchback is directly above the area that you would need to cut back.
Would not the ramp switch back be irrelevant if doing a cutback as it is going to be gone anyway , and would not the slip also be a red herring can clean it out from the bottom of the pit ?
Water is always an issue , my personal feeling is if the ore is worth mining then any issues will be resolved without fan fare .
