Also keep in mind that the 2019 closure is the current plan, however it can be extended if they were to find sufficient discoveries to keep the mine open for longer.
From the Randgold website, "The Morila operation has now progressed to full tailings retreatment as it moves towards closure. Closure is scheduled for 2019 but opportunities for extending its life are still being investigated."

It would appear that the "opportunities for extending its life are still being investigated.". would be referring to the land BGS holds around Morila. Therefore, if anything substantial was found then the mine would remain open until such times all worthwhile ore is depleted.
