Looking at the flkr pics I am absolutely astonished that the "ears" (brakes) on that winder have taken so b long to sort out. It wouldn't have had an engineers certificate attached to it and the welds wouldn't be xrayed but if I couldn't have knocked those mounting brackets for an alternative set of calipers together in a few hours then something is horribly wrong.

The shaft refurbishment was always going to be a holdup but gee if the winder manufacturers have held us up all this time then they need a good kick up the duds.
