Digimarc Corporation has been around for years providing working anti-counterfeit solutions detectable by smartphone scanning. Sure, they don't use exotic nanoparticles and rare earth inks, instead it is digital watermarking embedding covert information in the barcode image which is then applied to product, packaging and a smartphone scan reads that message. this link shows you how advanced they are compared to YPB.
