Perhaps Stockman's reference was related to the desirability of an examination of ASIC's efficacy in "policing" the Australian share market. They've certainly demonstrably struggled and performed poorly with banking sector. Although that had been somewhat obvious for many years, the current inquiry has certainly demonstrated repeated malfeasance and contempt for the regulator.

Crying "shorters!" at critiques of companies on this forum is not unusual of course. Although MSB seems to attract a considerable amount. Some probability that some in fact are shorters. Would be of interest to assess the actual degree and significance of that. Might be insignificant. But exactly how that might effectively be assessed I have no idea. That aspect alone might not warrant an inquiry, but the overall effectiveness of ASIC in regulating the share market would be in light of its pretty chronic failures with the banking sector.
