I think one point overlooked in this discussion is that few foreign companies that attempt to go it alone in China get their money out. I for one am happy that this deal leaves the financial and regulatory heavy lifting and commercial execution to a local partner. I get the argument about giving the rights away cheap and what does that say about the true value of the IP etc, but I think to commercialize this kind of treatment in China while retaining rights would be highly risky and unlikely to succeed.
