A greenfield project, in the heart off Mt Isa - surely not!
This talk by MD Ian Warland with Noel Ong is very interesting. Cooper Metals has secured exploration tenure with a trend of about 1.5 km mineralisation in the heart of the world class Mt Isa region. With 100 year old shafts and huts, it's hard to believe that there’s not been one drill hole made into this system. However, today with more powerful geophysic systems that can record less ‘noise’, it means that you can analyse the data better and isolate to find key conceptual targets.I like Ian's comment (approx. 9.00 minutes):
‘There’s been studies done of these explorations broadly. And it’s often the fourth, fifth, sixth explorer that comes into an area and make a discovery. So at lot of the workers that goes before, they get the initial data, and we’ve got the benefit and luxury of looking and applying new models and new nearology to generate new targets.’
My understanding is that if Cooper Metals don’t discover a giant IOCG / ISCG, they could as a default case, be happy to build an inventory from a number of statelite discoveries. With Mt Isa only 30–50 km away, there is the potential to toll treat those deposits through the established infrastructure that’s there, and monitise those discoveries for shareholder value.
Therefore, I see why Ian Warland's excited about his projects. They've done the hard work in securing terrain that has known mineralised for minimal costs. So the value proposition now, due to their modest MC, is to leveraged off and be rerated with any kind of discovery successes they may have along the way. Also, with two other quality projects, money in the bank, they are able to keep news flowing all year round.
I'll be looking at them more closely from now on.
