I don't understand what that 'discretionary' means. Does it mean they can sell at any time in that period at those hedged prices but must sell that amount over the next 3 years. Or does it mean they can choose not to sell at all (if they can get a better spot price)?

Pretty certain as long as they meet the hedge within the 3 year time frame at that price. Plenty of time to fulfill that hedge. Can mix ounces in per quarter with the current spot. Just a safety net but right now with gold pumping they are in a good space.
