I actually asked that question on Investor web, the answer I’ve pasted below, still awaiting an answer to my follow up question. I suggested that maybe some companies may like to sponsor a prototype to do their testing. My follow up Q was basically saying they’ll need a lot more testing units that 2.
We have obviously been testing red mud for a while now (note we now have 2 operational testing units), yet Vedanta signed a MoU even before we’d released the results - they wanted to get a leg up on any other companies testing their products and it would seem signing this MoU means we are now doing further testing/optimising which otherwise may have been put on the back burner. (my speculation)
With all the NDA’s I think some will have to come out into the open, declare their cards, sign a MoU to cement their spot.
I think Indium corp being the 1st will be at the head of the list for Demo Plant testing - also because these are high value metals compared to red mud.
REE’s are also high value, especially HREE’s with Dysprosium around $300k/t & Terbium $1.3m/t. The unnamed REE company has been involved with MTM under a NDA for quite a while. It wouldn’t surprise me if this Vedanta MoU that came unexpectedly sparks a few others to ink a few deals.
There are after all only 2 testing units & 1 planned Demo Unit. I wouldn’t mind betting companies like Vedanta after more testing & fine tuning pay for their own bespoke Demo Plant. They say about $3m to build - chicken feed to them.
“Thanks you for your interest and question. Just to clarify, the 1TPD prototype is different to the testing units of which we now have two installed and operational. You are right to point out that there are a lot of different feedstock samples that we have tests under way for. We are being disciplined in prioratising which feedstock we test. We cannot comment further on the arrangements that we have in relation to cost recovery for testing due to confidentiality.”
