I've read the announcement a few times over now and have some thoughts/questions.
My opinion, this announcement is rather opaque and could use some more real world analysis to paint a better picture of performance.
I concede that MTN Arena has ~225,000 registered paying subscribers since launch - however that number is not indicative that all of those subscribers are paying right now, just subscribers have paid at some point (they have to in order to register and use the platform).
Perhaps they could have shared...
- Daily average paying subscribers across the quarter.
- Daily average subscribers playing games across the quarter.
- Subscriber retention rates.
Just showing a total number of registered subscribers and it's delta is akin to showing Crowd1 preregistration numbers - it looks nice having big round numbers but they're meaningless without important context.
Also what did MTN Arena do on 31/03/2021 that netted them 39,472 paying subscribers which is ~37.6% of the ~105,000 new subscribers for the two months? That's a huge spike in one day and it would have been nice they elaborated on that.
