My opinion. DYOR.
The value delivered to subscribers is (1) that they have a chance to win prizes, (2) whilst enjoying playing games, (3) [my opinion] there is also enhanced "motivation" by delivering the aforementioned things in a "social" platform. People are motivated to get higher scores when they see their high score in a leaderboard. This is a very simplification of what is happening.
Additionally: people all around the world spend a LOT of money in lotteries and pokie machines with TERRIBLE return odds, every day of the year. I don't get why people are downramping a model that delivers a chance for subscribers to win money whilst they are enjoying video games; simply because they think people won't pay to enter a competition with bad odds for the subscriber. it happens every day of every year, all around the world.
