LWD = logging while drilling. Logging tool is part of the drill string.
LWF = logging while fishing. Tool is latched with the fishing (drill)string and then logging proceeds by pulling back the fishing string with the wireline tool still latched at bottom of same. Its basically a variation on Tough Logging Conditions (TLC) logging where you run in hole with the tool latched in the end of the drill string.
