Given that there appears to be a predominance of blue coloured fluorescence in several sidewall core samples, how would you view the following hypothesis? The fluorescence colour changes to blue as thermal maturity progresses leading to predominantly light hydrocarbons with lower molecular weight (Bonilla and Engel, 1986, Brother et al, 1991), and the concentration of aromatic compounds in the oils would decrease
(Stasiuk and Snowden, 1997). In addition, a limited range in fluorescence colour may indicate a single generation of hydrocarbons (Munz, 2001), or post-depositional alteration via phase separation or gas/water washing (Bourdet et al, 2014).
