I gather your asking why not "set" Mukuyu-2's drilling pad in the Central Fault Block System and then dill into the Northern Fault Block System to test the reservoirs? This would mean drilling a deviated well, thus more complicated, higher cost etc. for IMO what would be no benefit to obtaining Mukuyu-2's drilling objectives.

Their is no talk from IVZ about doing this. In my notes, I, on occasions, put forward options that I think, based on my oil and gas exploration experience, could be plausible depending on results achieved in the well's drilling, flow testing, etc.

Hi @VOGC ... Usually when doing a sidetrack, especially openhole, the mother-bore will be abandoned. To allow for the mother-bore to be completed for subsequent flow testing with or without the rig on the well I do not think a sidetrack would be possible. There are complicated multilateral completions, but not something done on exploration/appraisal wells.

To side track in open hole isn't too complex. You plug back to above your kick off point and go in with a motor assembly.

Drilling a side track from a well that's been cased to TD would require setting a whip stock and milling through casing to initiate a sidetrack. Once you've set the whipstock and drilled the side track further operations in the old bore would require plugging back the sidetrack and removing the whipstock. Im not sure how feasible that is and the cost of the hole operation would be much higher than for a simple open hole sidetrack.

Petre and others have more experience than I do in this sort of operation so I'll let them add further comment.
