"Checked" refers to checking that a module is operational when inserted in the tool string.

Tools under go full and rigorous testing in the base prior to load out. For some modules this will include things like a soak test in an oven.

Once tools reach the rig they are set up on the ground as they'll be run and plugged into the wireline unit for testing. The Engineer will check that he can communicate with the tools and that any commands sent from the unit trigger the correct operations on the tool. If applicable a field calibration of the tools is also carried out. These checks are done on both primary and backup tool sets.

Immediately prior to running in the hole with the tools a further function check will be performed on the tools. In the case of the MDT this will include cycling the probe.
