Ok so decision to abandon the run and go in with the tool on drill pipe was made while pumping out and before they had a chance to direct flow to sample chambers.

While an MDT tool is on station with the probe set the winchman will have the cable slacked off but every few minutes hell work the winch to move the cable and reduce risk of it sticking. Its also a way of getting a feel for how the cable is interacting with the borehole wall. While working the cable they probably noted it was sticking and decided to get out of dodge before they ended up requiring a fishing job.
