In my experience, SBM would give a slicker hole, and less chance of chemistry-based hole issues but there’s pluses and minuses to each decision regarding mud. I’ve found it takes an age to clean-up formation samples on wireline (you add another phase - oil to the water and gas that exists at virgin conditions creating what’s know as relative permeability effects. This reduces effective permeability of the rock making it appear poorer quality than if you used water based mud). WBM also makes for better images on wireline (FMI - there are OBM equivalents which are pretty decent but FMI still wins in my opinion and this will give important information for understanding the geology of the basin) and also gives better resistivity measurements for log analysis (this is really important in gas reservoirs when correcting for light hydrocarbons when calculating porosity and therefor water saturation as well).

Thanks guys. We clearly have optionality beyond TLC and Scott had the foresight to lock in contingency funds ahead of spud. He wants the D more than any of us and I suspect he will throw everything possible at this.
