On M-1 the mud chemistry wasn't right. Clays in shales were swelling causing shales to slough into wellbore i.e. hole deterioration. That's has been fixed in M-2, but the MDT with sample chambers fills most of an 8.5" hole, so the longer you spend taking samples the higher the risk of getting stuck. Conveying the tool on drill pipe (TLC) means the MDT can be freed more easily.
