I think you have to look from the consumer perspective as well. The reason many people shop online is because of time saving, search for the product the normally used or need, add to cart and checkout.
If a VR environment is to bring them back into a Halo space with shelf full of goods, no social interaction and no assistant. That is just waste of time and not to mention you have to spend around $1000 plus on the VR glasses first. Not sure whether your have watched a movie call " I am Legend". Imagine you shopping in that environment without the zombies. That's just nuts and waste of time.
I think you have to look from the consumer perspective as well....
