Some of the late selling might have been traders paying up at the start of trade to catch the expected wave, and then exiting due to the stock not going on with it.
I have a '10 minute' rule that says if you get a really positive announcement before the start of trade, don't buy on market in the first 10 minutes of trading, because, more often than not, the punters swarm in, trying to beat everyone else to the punch. But they really didn't beat anyone to the punch, and a little patience is often rewarded as the share price drifts throughout the day.
It often works, but sometimes the stock does go on with it, and you miss out.
