Both partly right, I should think. But day traders who get stuck holding the parcel do certainly sell at a loss sometimes. It comes with the territory; they win some, they lose some. But if their money's tied up in a 'loser' they're less able to make money elsewhere. It's certainly a frantic, high adrenaline world they live in. It's always fascinating to watch the action when a stock surges upwards in quick time and then suddenly implodes and falls just as quickly.
