Wild Bill Hickok was shot dead, in Deadwood South Dakota,
on the border of Wyoming in the Black Hills. He was Famously holding Aces an Eights...
To this day known as a dead mans hand...But....what many do not know is the
macabre tale of his burial...
Hickok's corpse was buried in haste in a paupers graveyard, and was
subsequently exhumed 3 yrs later when the Cemetery was moved...Hickok's corpse was perfectly preserved except he was now solid rock....Silica had leached into the improperly
preserved corpse and turned it to stone. When moved was said to be over 400lbs...
I spent some time in Sheridan Wy. (in the shadow of the Devils Tower) and Deadwood was just a quick trip east....Some real crazy mineralization rich country there. Jewel Cave..Etc
