Biased speculation here but from the wording of the announcement and that proactive investor chat, my interpretation is that the first extension was brought on by alcoa not being 100% ready.

This second extension comes with the wording “mutually agreed” differing from the first announcement. My take being that perhaps this extension was instigated by FYI in relation to their work separate to the JV as Roly states in the interview. An opportunity has been found for perhaps a better deal on FYIs behalf and has been brought to Alcoa, thus extending talks. This aligns with what is seen in the announcement “value add initiatives”.

Again, just pure speculation (or more delusional thinking, to quote our A4N friends).
