At current prices the stock is a better bet. I investigated the Macquarie capital notes scheme earlier this year. You get larger returns there because the share price is so high and it makes sense.
in the smaller banks not so much. They do pay several interest payments oer year. For someone who has cash and doesn't want shares they're probably worthwhile over a bank account.
