Why the gov't is taking care of K2H, and why we shouldn't be too concerned by Jemalong being sold on spot:"There appear to be underlying concerns about getting the capacity back online before the first quarter of 2020 as that forward market has risen from approximately $132 a megawatt-hour to $148/MWh since the start of the winter," said Josh Stabler, managing director at advisor Energy Edge.
That's almost 50 per cent higher than Victoria's September quarter price of $100/MWh and 60 per cent higher than the Queensland price for January-March 2020. Tight supplies also increase the likelihood spot prices will surge to their maximum of $14,500/MWh as happened several times last summer.
