Much of what has been discovered at NAL is closer to the surface than what is being mined at the Greenbushes Mine in Western Australia.

“The Greenbushes lithium mine in Western Australia, the world’s largest hard-rock lithium operation, has open-pit mines that vary in depth. The current mining operations involve multiple pits, with the most detailed information available on the combined C1, C2, and C3 pits. As part of the mine’s stage three and four expansions, these pits are being merged into a single open-pit with a maximum depth of up to 450 meters (approximately 1,476 feet). This pit is about 2.8 km long and 1 km wide.”
