I'm pretty sure this isn't aimed at shareholders - it would be in response to their sales department who would have screamed blue murder when sales suddenly dried up as customers started asking about the stability of their contracts ... and why they should sign up with a company that is up for sale.
For the record ... I'm on the "NO" team as well; not sure how the board could face their shareholders after selling out like this.
