Measuring from photogrammetry has been around for a century - be it contours, heights of objects etc.
I could measure a roof without climbing on it - via laser scanner - invented in the '90s, or from reflectorless total station - 80's (perhaps earlier), or from theodolite and trig - Egyptians were on to this shit.
