Here is an article (https://www.randrmagonline.com/articles/89375-eagleview-awarded-375m-in-lawsuit-against-verisk-analytics-parent-company-to-xactware) about another case which EV has won recently.
NEA will of course be aware of this case, and therefore will have weighed its significance in make the announcement this morning.
The article notes that "within court documents, Xactware representatives stated they saw EagleView as a real threat to their business and admitted at that time that they had to adopt EagleView's technology for themselves or work with EagleView." Xactware has filed an appeal.
Insofar as Rob Newman has said that “Nearmap has always taken the subject of intellectual property rights and patent protections seriously and believes the allegations are without merit. We will vigorously defend against the complaint. The business remains unaffected by the complaint,” I believe NEA consider that they are not in a similar situation to Xactware.
Clearly, we need to follow with interest, but I remain unconcerned.
