Packer's QPSX posts $1.8m loss

The Kerry Packer-backed technology investment group QPSX Ltd has reported a net loss for 2002/03 of $1.77 million.
The broadband development group said the result, off revenue of $419,802, was in line with its 2002/03 budget.
In 2001/02 QPSX reported a net loss of $851,000 off a revenue of $820,685 .
QPSX chief executive Graham Griffiths said 2002/03 revenues had included the continuation of historical licensing royalties, which would position the company for positive cash flows from licensing programs in the coming year.
Mr Griffiths said that anticipated revenue from QPSX's flagship licensing program, Segmentation and Reassembly (SAR), remained in the hundreds of millions of dollars and was expected to start in 2004.
He said that while QPSX was about investing in a diversified portfolio of technologies, the company had to maintain a balanced approach creating long term value, generating short term growth and managing costs in the current economic environment.

"We have been realistic in balancing the growth opportunities with our capacity to manage and deliver commercial returns for our clients and QPSX," he said.
"We continue to focus on investments in high value opportunities in growth sectors, as we build a sustainable profitable business."
Mr Packer's Consolidated Press Holdings owns around eight per cent of Perth-based QPSX.
Shares in QPSX closed down two cents at 40 cents.
