you can get shares cheaper yes, but not always. If you buy shares on the market the money goes to another trader or investor but if you participate in the CR/SPP the money you spend goes to the actual company. I like to think this way when Spp, My money is going to back my investment. Does depend on the Share price fluctuations but you also don't pay brokerage on the SPP
