Nearmap scope bigger and better

NEW OBLIQUE imagery products from Nearmap and a technologically advanced processing pipeline of 3D generation software and cloud-based processing and provisioning, has seen the geospatial imagery provider expand its location content and extend its delivery capabilities.

Nearmap’s HyperCamera 2 has been under development now for a number of years and utilises technology that is three times more accurate than previous generation systems.
Now, with the inclusion of panorama and oblique aerial imagery products, Nearmap is extending its reach, and is now able to generate 3D reconstructions on an unprecedented scale.
Nearmap’s Panorama feature allows users to view 45-degree perspective maps for large or small areas in all cardinal directions, and easily navigate, pan, and zoom across any size geography to quickly analyse perspective maps and make faster decisions.
In addition, the Oblique feature lets users inspect and measure the height of features such as buildings or terrain.
The massive capture program using the HyperCamera 2 is also well underway, with big swathes of the US and Australia captured and available to customers online.
A commercial launch of Panorama and Oblique products to Australian customers is expected next year.
Nearmap managing director and CEO Rob Newman said the technology milestones represent a major step forward in both location content and delivery capabilities for the company.
He said building on its 10 year imagery history in Australia, the United States and New Zealand, and with over 8,000 customers, the commercialisation of the technology leadership provided an exciting opportunity for Nearmap, and 2018 will see the leadership position extended further, with products such as digital surface models, textured 3D mesh and 3D point clouds.
