    I don't think you can claim a tax deduction its more to do with the treatment of CGT. For example I'm assuming the relief would apply to when you bought your shares in NMT, having held it for a year, then if you sold your shares in New Co on day one of the demerger the 1 year CGT discount rule may apply.
