Stumpy, I dont know the answer to your questions, but wish I had followed your example. I dont know if JB was the "head honcho" over the period when the fund was doing well.... he may have been there but still had his training wheels on. I heard him interviewed on a free to air show ----usbiz the other day and his performance was halting, hesitant and very uninspiring. ALF is a stock that tests my patience....... you can see the abjectly poor performance over years, you can see a dud fund manager, you can see the mistakes etc etc etc, but you cant do anything about it. Even the NTA is declining at the moment.... One of the posters on HC uses JB as an information source from his quarterly newsletters, reads his detailed analysis of say one stock, and then goes out and buys it on his own, and seems to make money. JB on the other hand is so confused and muddled by his foray into international stocks (now out) but also his short play and the percentages of shorts and longs, that even if he gets a good stock right... the rest of his strategy destroys the value obtained. Geoff Wilson was (I think) a seed backer of ALF, and I dont know how he can tolerate such abysmal performance for so long. The only thing you can rely on with ALF, is that you can rely on it to underperform and to go absolutely nowhere. The best thing that happened to ALF was the buy back at $1.10 earlier this year, which I took full advantage of, but now even the after tax and net NTA has I think fallen to $1.04. JB personally didnt take advantage of the buy back and last year at various stages he was a buyer of ALF at far higher prices than today......gives you an idea of his business acumen ! Me ? a very disappointed and frustrated holder. PS. Its interesting how many posters on HC who were waving the flag for JB and who disagreed with my assessment of ALF and of JBs performance have now disappeared from the folder.

"Geoff Wilson was (I think) a seed backer of ALF, and I dont know how he can tolerate such abysmal performance for so long." A portion of the management fees still flow through to him as far as I am aware of. If I was receiving a cut of management fees I would be more tolerant of the performance situation than I am.
