When to sell stocks is the hardest thing to know
and probably the thing I have spent the most time
thinking about. I have come to the conclusion
that you will never get it perfect but as long as you
are making good money it’s all that matters.
I have become more cautious too, I listened to
the mantra of “ it’s not timing the market but time
in market” in two downturns that stopped me
from selling at an opportune time.
After much reflection I know take Marcus
Padley’s view of “if you are going to panic, panic
early “ I would rather be wrong and have my
capital intact. The more money I have in the
market , the more concerned I am with
protecting it. Occasionally that might mean
I sell something too soon or at the wrong time or
price. But capital preservation has become a
much bigger theme for me of late.
