They do seem very confident.
It is not a "binary event" though.
A binary event is a case where only one of two possible outcomes can occur. On or off, one or zero.
In the event of a drugs clinical trials there are many possible outcomes. The results will have varying degrees of success or failure. There are also numerous possible grey areas in between, eg efficacy shown in a subgroup, efficacy shown but safety concerns, indications of efficacy but dosing needs further investigation.
"Binary events" also pop up on posts regarding oil wells. But again then are lots of possible results, various flow rates, oil shows, associated gas, pressures, pressure drop off etc.
