I would expect the patent to be along the lines of "Use of a low-THC cannabinoid medication to treat neurological conditions". Of course that's ridiculously general and a more specific application might be required by patent offices, or it might be hard to defend. But the patent beagles would know exactly how the application should be formulated.

The company has already tied up Dolce / NTI-64 through a licencing agreement.

So while it would be open to anybody to develop an alternative low-THC strain of cannabis the patent would form a second line of defense concerning its application in medicine.
