Think about how modern exploration in Australia is often naturally drawn to areas around old shafts and other mine workings. The old-time miners weren't stupid, they knew where the gold was. We're just leveraging off the work they've already done.

Following artisinal mine workings in Africa is no different, it's a form of modern day prospecting. It would have yielded better outcomes than spending millions drilling that low-grade rubbish at Gogbala.

They could employ some of the miners on a casual basis as prospectors and even offer a royalty sharing agreement of 1.5% to the "community" should one of their discoveries reach commercial production. Good way to keep the locals onside while exploring the ground effectively.

Hate to say this, but the "local" Geologists they have on staff seem utterly clueless. Peter and Ann will be competent enough, but they can't be there 24/7 to hold their hands.
